Donald John Trump was born June 14, 1946, in the New York borough of Queens, to parents Mary and Fred Trump.
He was the second youngest of 5 siblings, along with Fred Jr, Maryanne, Elizabeth, and Robert.
His brother Fred Jr, died of alcoholism in 1981. His brother's alcoholism is the reason Trump does not drink or smoke. However, this didn't prevent Trump from releasing his own brand of Vodka in 2005.
Trump is of Scottish ancestry on his mother's side, and German ancestry on his father's side.
He inherited his interest in real estate from his father Fred, who was one of New York City's biggest developers during the 1950s and 60s.
The family's original German surname was "Drumpf" but this was changed to Trump during the seventeenth century.
Trump attended the Kew-Forest School in New York City until the age of 13 when he left due to a number of behavioral problems he had at the school.
He then enrolled at NYMA (New York Military Academy), where he attained the rank of captain before graduating in 1964.
Having attended the Bronx's Fordham University for two years, Trump transferred to the prestigious Wharton school of Finance and Commerce, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Economics in 1968.
Trump was not drafted in to the Vietnam war, initially because of his student status, before being declared medically unfit in late 1968 due to an issue with his heels.
Following graduation from Wharton, Trump jumped straight in to the real estate business thanks to a million dollar loan from his father.
Trump's rise to prominence came during the 1970's after he was given control of his father's real estate company. Originally named "Elizabeth Trump and Son", Trump re-labeled the business as "The Trump Organization."
Trump owned the Miss USA Pageants between 1996 and 2015, making regular appearances at the event.
This is not Trump's first run at the White House. In 2000, he made a fleeting attempt at winning the presidential nomination of the Reform Party, but withdrew early in proceedings.
Trump's net worth is estimated to be around $4 billion, making him the 324th richest person in the world in 2016, according to Forbes magazine; although Trump has claimed his true worth is in excess of $10 billion.
This wealth has been amassed despite 4 high-profile bankruptcies to Trump companies. Two of his Atlantic City casino's, the Taj Mahal and Trump Plaza went bust during the 1990's plunging Trump into nearly a billion dollars worth of personal debt. Trump then experienced a resurgence in his business empire, before succumbing to another bankruptcy in 2004, again with his casino and real estate empire. His rebooted empire then filed for bankruptcy again in 2009.
Trump was awarded an honorary degree from the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland in 2010. This award was revoked in 2015 following enormous public pressure, after Trump called for the banning of Muslims entering the United States.
Thanks to the incredible success of his TV show, "The Apprentice" (for which he was paid $375,000 per episode), Trump now has his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His star was defaced in October 2016.
Trump has made numerous other appearances in film and TV shows over the years, even earning himself a "Razzie" in 1990 for Worst Supporting Actor following his regrettable performance in the movie "Ghosts Can't Do It."
Trump has been married 3 times, and has five children. He has three children from his first marriage to Ivana Zelnickova; Donald Jr, Ivanka, and Eric. Trump has a daughter, Tiffany, from his second marriage to Marla Maples. His third marriage was to Melania Knauss in 2005, with whom he has a son named Barron.
Trump has indicated that he would take a tough stance on international politics if elected, declaring his support of "waterboarding" and other strong interrogation tactics in dealing with terrorists, and claiming that the world would be a better place if former dictators Sadam Hussein, and Muammar Gaddhafi were still in power, as they kept terrorists organizations in check.
